In 2018, the WEF InFLOW (introducing Future Leaders to Opportunities in Water) program was created to increase diversity in the water workforce by working with the participants to:
- Introduce them to and solidify their interest in working in water; and
- Increase their probabilities for employment and long-term success in the water sector.
WEF InFLOW is comprised of two tracks, STEMPath and CareerTech. STEMPath identifies scholars enrolled in undergraduate/graduate degree programs from historically underrepresented ethnic and racial groups. CareerTech partners with community based organizations to expose scholars in job readiness programs to the variety of rewarding career possibilities in water quality
Thanks to program sponsors and donations, WEF InFLOW has supplied travel assistance, hotel accommodations, and special networking opportunities for over 100 scholars to attend WEFTEC, the largest annual water quality conference in the world.
Many past InFLOW scholars have moved on to get internships and jobs in the water sector. Howard University even started a Water Environment Federation Student Chapter in 2019 based on student participation in this program.
Donations will be used to directly support the WEF InFLOW program activities and travel assistance. Both personal and corporate donations are welcome and appreciated at any level.
